UM CORAÇÃO AGRADECIDO

Tento convencer-me de que um coração pleno e agradecido não pode abrigar nenhum orgulho. Quando repleto de gratidão, o coração por certo só pode dar amor, a mais bela emoção que jamais podemos sentir.

NA OPINIÃO DO BILL, p.37

Meu padrinho disse-me para ser um alcoólico grato e sempre ter “uma atitude de gratidão”; que a gratidão é o ingrediente básico da humildade, que a humildade é o ingrediente básico do anonimato e que o “anonimato é o alicerce espiritual das nossas tradições, lembrando-nos sempre da necessidade de colocar os princípios acima das personalidades”. Como resultado desta orientação, comecei toda manhã, de joelhos, a agradecer a Deus por três coisas:

Estar vivo, estar sóbrio e ser membro de Alcoólicos Anônimos. Então tento viver em uma “atitude de gratidão” e desfrutar completamente de mais vinte e quatro horas da maneira de viver de A.A. A Irmandade não é apenas algo onde ingressei; é alguma coisa que eu vivo.

A THANKFUL HEART

/ try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know.

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 37

My sponsor told me that I should be a grateful alcoholic and always have "an attitude of gratitude"—that gratitude was the basic ingredient of humility, that humility was the basic ingredient of anonymity and that "anonymity was the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities." As a result of this guidance, I start every morning on my knees, thanking God for three things: I'm alive, I'm sober, and I'm a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Then I try to live an "attitude of gratitude" and thoroughly enjoy another twenty-four hours of the A.A. way of life. A.A. is not something I joined; it's something I live.
